How to password-protect a batch of PDF files

Protecting a folder of documents one file at a time is slow and makes it easier to miss a file. A batch workflow applies the same protection settings to a controlled group of PDFs and keeps the resulting passwords together for secure hand-off.

Before you start

Confirm that every document is intended for the recipient shown in its filename or covering record. Work from copies where practical, decide how passwords will be communicated, and do not send a password in the same email as the protected PDF.

The browser-local workflow

  1. Sign in and open Batch Mode.
  2. Choose up to ten PDFs, keeping the total batch below 100 MB.
  3. Select password rules and an optional visible watermark.
  4. Process the queue and check that every file shows as protected.
  5. Download the PDFs and the password list, then store the list securely.

SecurePDF processes each document sequentially in the browser. The document bytes, source filenames and generated passwords are not sent to SecurePDF.

Checks after processing

Open a sample output file in a separate PDF reader and confirm that it requests the expected password. Check the output filename, recipient and watermark before delivery. Delete temporary password lists when they are no longer needed.
